Why Dental Implants May Be The Best Option For You

Lois Murray

Keeping your teeth healthy is not always easy, and if you have a condition that affects your teeth, you may find you have to have some of the damaged teeth removed. For many people that means dentures but there is an alternative that you may want to consider. Dental implants offer a suitable replacement option that is permanent, strong, and low maintenance.

About Implants

Dental implants look just like your natural teeth and are permanently installed in your mouth. They are made from similar materials as dentures are, but if you only need to replace one tooth, you have that option. The implant will be made to look just like a natural tooth with matching colors, size, and shape all being carefully considered. One the implant is in place, it is permanent, and you brush and care for the implants just like any other tooth.

Install the Implants

If you are going to have an implant, you will have to wait until the bad tooth is removed and the tissue and bone where the tooth was has healed. The dentist will drill into the bone and place a stud that the tooth will attach to. Once the stud is in position, the tooth will be placed on it and the aligned to match your natural teeth. The bone will grow in around the stud, making it a permanent part of your mouth and keeping the implant secure for many years to come.

Implanted Dentures

For patients with a lot of teeth that need to be removed, dentures may be recommended for them. Dentures allow you to have teeth, but they can be tough to keep tight and comfortable in your mouth. One option is a denture that is installed on four studs that are implanted in the patient's jaw. Once the studs as in place, the denture snaps onto the studs and is extremely secure. The denture can be removed for cleaning than easily fastened back on the studs after you are done.

Care For Implants

Having implants is just one option and if you feel that it is right for you to talk to your dentist about it. The care for the implants is about the same as your other teeth. The difference is, the implant is manmade, and the material is much stronger and longer lasting than a natural tooth. Brush them like you would any tooth and keep food and debris out from around them with flossing and you will be fine.

About Me
Straight Teeth in Less Time

I had braces when I was a kid. Back then, you had to wear those metal wires and rubber bands for what seemed like forever. When I saw that my child’s teeth were going to be crooked like mine, I was dreading the years of braces and orthodontist appointments and limited diets that I saw stretching ahead of us. I was pleased to find out that braces today are very different from braces when I was a kid. They don’t need to be worn for nearly as long, and they aren’t as intrusive, either. My daughter got braces that can barely be seen, and she can remove them when she eats, so she doesn’t have to give up her favorite foods. I was so impressed that I started a blog to talk about modern day tooth straightening techniques. Braces have come a long way.
