How to Get Dental Care on a Shoestring Budget

Lois Murray

Few things can ruin well-made plans like a toothache. The throbbing pain that seems to shift from your nerves to your jawbone can be extremely uncomfortable, causing you to hold your mouth in agony. Although you know you're going to need professional care, you worry because you don't have insurance and your budget is nearly maxed out. Check out the following information so you'll know how to get affordable dental care services when you need them the most.

Head Over to a School of Dentistry

The first place you should go when you're on the hunt for budget-friendly dental services is a local dental school. Dental students are trained to perform tons of different procedures, and they just might be able to help you without overtaxing your pockets.

Even though dental school students haven't been made into official dentists yet, they've undergone years of schooling to learn their craft. They know how to do things such as tooth extractions, root canals, bridge repair, and many other dental-related services, and they may be able to help when you're in an emergency situation. You will often find that the prices you are charged at dental schools are much more affordable than what you would find at a traditional dental clinic. Some facilities may even let you get the work done for free.

It's important to note that any work you have done on your mouth by a dental student will usually be overseen by a licensed dental professional. The professional will ensure that the procedure goes off without a hitch.

Check with Your Local or State Health Department

The local and state health department in your region just might be able to help when you're in a dental pinch. Many of these organizations set aside money so that people who need dental care can get financial assistance when an emergency occurs. Your income level may or may not be taken into account, because these agencies understand that no matter how much money you make there comes a time when nearly everyone needs some type of financial help.

Reach out to your local or state health department. You could find that they're able to grant you the money to get the dental work done.

Your finances don't have to keep you in an uncomfortable position when you need a trip to the dentist office. Use these resources so you can get the dental care that you need without having to wait in pain another day.

About Me
Straight Teeth in Less Time

I had braces when I was a kid. Back then, you had to wear those metal wires and rubber bands for what seemed like forever. When I saw that my child’s teeth were going to be crooked like mine, I was dreading the years of braces and orthodontist appointments and limited diets that I saw stretching ahead of us. I was pleased to find out that braces today are very different from braces when I was a kid. They don’t need to be worn for nearly as long, and they aren’t as intrusive, either. My daughter got braces that can barely be seen, and she can remove them when she eats, so she doesn’t have to give up her favorite foods. I was so impressed that I started a blog to talk about modern day tooth straightening techniques. Braces have come a long way.
