Four Things To Know About Emergency Dental Services

Lois Murray

Dental emergencies can happen suddenly and unexpectedly, and you might need to seek emergency services is simply because the pain from these emergencies can be unbearable enough that you are unable to wait for treatment. If your emergency has occurred during business hours when your regular dentist office is opened, the first step would be to call them, since there is a slight chance they can see you that day. If not, though, they can recommend an emergency dentist near you. Here are four things you should know about emergency dental services:

Availability Isn't Always the Same: The availability of emergency dental services isn't always the same. However, in any case, you are able to been seen quickly. The only difference is that usually those that close at night have a dentist who is on call. If they are called in for your dental emergency, they will then meet you at the office, so you might need to wait until a certain time since they need time to get there. What you must know about this type of dental emergency clinic is that you might have to call in ahead of time and cannot walk in. For those offices that are open at night, you are able to just walk in to be seen, but keep in mind that you will have to wait a short period of time for other patients there to be seen.

Wait Times Are Limited: While it may seem like the wait times for the above situations are not worth it, what you must note is that wait times in a dental emergency clinic are not the same as they would be at a medical emergency room since dental emergencies do not occur nearly as often as medical emergencies do. Chances are, you won't even have to wait at all to be seen.

Care Is Simple: When you are seen in a dental emergency clinic, the care is going to be simple and exactly what you need to at least relieve the pain. While the dentist cannot do any serious procedures, they will at least be able to provide you with the pain relief needed until you are able to be seen by your dentist. Your emergency dentist can also provide extraction procedures if necessary to relieve pain.

Costs Are High: While the costs for emergency dental services are higher than typical dental costs, what you must know is that it's usually covered by dental insurance. If only some of the service is covered or it's not covered at all, most emergency dental clinics have payment options for you to arrange.

When you know these four things about emergency dental services, you can be sure that you are better prepared for the services that you need in your situation.

About Me
Straight Teeth in Less Time

I had braces when I was a kid. Back then, you had to wear those metal wires and rubber bands for what seemed like forever. When I saw that my child’s teeth were going to be crooked like mine, I was dreading the years of braces and orthodontist appointments and limited diets that I saw stretching ahead of us. I was pleased to find out that braces today are very different from braces when I was a kid. They don’t need to be worn for nearly as long, and they aren’t as intrusive, either. My daughter got braces that can barely be seen, and she can remove them when she eats, so she doesn’t have to give up her favorite foods. I was so impressed that I started a blog to talk about modern day tooth straightening techniques. Braces have come a long way.
